About the authors:

Andrew Beiter is the Director of the Summer Institute for Human Rights and Genocide Studies, and the co-founder of the Educators’ Institute for Human Rights, a conference on the Holocaust for Rwandan teachers in Kigali. A Regional Education Coordinator for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Drew is the Education Director for the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo, as well as the group I Am Syria. He has organized numerous workshops on human rights and genocide prevention around the country, including a September 2013 interview with Secretary of State John Kerry about the U.S. response to chemical weapons attacks in Syria through a Google Hangout with journalists Nicholas Kristof and Lara Setrakian.

Joseph Karb is co-founded of the national Speak Truth to Power Human Rights video contest of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. In 2012 he was selected the New York State and National Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year. His work has been featured nationally in sPBS Newshour and Britannica Online. In 2014, he was elected to the board of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), also serving as a trainer for the national College, Career, and Civic Life Framwork (C3) for Social Studies State Standards.
