About the Project:

The Warning Signs of Genocide is a not-for-profit educational site made by teachers, for teachers to in some way make the world a better place. Recognizing that busy educators have no interest reading long curriculum guides, these Common Core-friendly lessons have all the handouts ready to print, can be fully implemented in one class, and most importantly, are easy to do!

Designed for a secondary Social Studies classroom, they are mean to provide a way of connecting the study of the Holocaust to the world today. As teachers, if we are serious about the concept of "Never Again", we have the obligation to help our students develop an understanding of the early warning signs of mass murder—and to provide them opportunities to take action.

Student-friendly and easy to implement, the lessons have you as the teacher be the President’s Chief of Staff in the Situation Room of the White House, with your class impersonating the National Security Staff. Your task is to analyze Intelligence Videos that indicate that genocide or mass atrocities are happening in certain parts of the world. After, your students will recommend courses of action that the President should take.

Strikingly realistic and engaging to be a part of, these situations will enhance your students’ ability to spot the warning signs of genocide before mass murder takes place. So click here to get started--and know what you're doing is crucial to the health and safety of the world.
